The ancient celebration called "Pentecost" marks the day the Holy Spirit fell on Jesus' followers who were waiting and praying. Who was the gift of the Spirit given to? Karen Zuckmerman, RN, MSN, brings us a thoughtful word on a holy contagion we can be part of spreading -- for the good of those around us! What does Jesus require of his followers, to measure up, try harder, memorize the Bible, work with the poor? We get a strong indication of what Jesus is about in his conversation with Peter when he asks, "Do you love me?" "Half-hearted" is not something I want to be. How about you? What is worth being all-in on? Sometimes you just know. Sometimes you need more information before you commit. Which is better? Jesus appeared several times to the disciples in a variety of contexts. He often greeted them with "Peace be with you". What kind of greeting is that? The day Jesus rose from the grave he sought out Mary and called her by name. Why? Christians around the world celebrate that Jesus rose from the dead. We understand it not only as a vindication of his life and teaching, but the beginning of the liberation of any and all who follow him. Join us for a bright, joyful celebration! Thursday of Holy Week leads into Good Friday. Tonight's service follows the last 24 hours of Jesus' life: Passover, prayer, betrayal and arrest, and ultimately Jesus' death by crucifixion. Scripture, music, Communion, and darkness characterize our time together. We depart in silence and darkness. Jesus rode into Jerusalem as prophet and king, but knowing not everyone would understand what he was about to do. Are we willing to accept life on his terms -- his life and our life? |
